The 10th edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo and 2nd edition of Bangladesh Fashionology Summit were held at the International Convention City Bashundhara, Dhaka, from May 2 to 3 with huge response from the buyers, entrepreneurs and visitors.
The aims of the expo was to firm the footings of Bangladesh to fetch its share in the global 130 billion dollars market of smart apparel by 2025.
The summit brought all local and international stakeholders together under one roof. It was a gathering of the most inspiring and innovative thinkers from across the globe to initiate the much-needed conversations around technology, digitalization and innovation.
Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) organized the summit with the theme 'Digitalization-the Next Destination'.
The two-day denim expo was focusing on 'circularity' as a theme for bringing positive changes in the whole denim supply chain. At the same time, the fashionology summit was held at evening on May 2.
While addressing the programme, founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) Mostafiz Uddin said, "The recent increase of wages and the cost of production have made it inevitable for the apparel manufacturers of the country to concentrate on value added products. The 130 billion dollars smart clothing market is an area we need to focus on to survive and thrive."
"The theme of Circularity is to raise awareness and open debate about the need to embrace circular business practices. We live in a world where we are producing too much clothing product that is then discarded rather than reused, recycled or repurposed - this linear business model is unsustainable for the future", said Mostafiz.
Managing Director of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) Mohiuddin Rubel said, "The shift from producing basic to smart clothing will not be so easy and it has to be done gradually with proper planning and preparation. The objective of Bangladesh Fashionololgy Summit is to facilitate the shift."
